While we’re past the first of the year, it’s not too late to make a New Year resolution that everyone in your business can get behind – having better meetings in 2016. Whether or not your team is complaining about the quantity or quality of meetings around your company, having more efficient meetings can help your business in several ways. Here’s how the acronym SMART (often used in goal setting) can be applied to your 2016 meetings.
S – Specific: Be specific about the objective of your meeting, and your agenda items. This helps your team prepare for the meeting to make the most of your time.
M – Measurable: Measure the effectiveness of your meetings through two metrics: cost and number of action items created. You can calculate the meeting cost of meetings by calculating the hourly rate of all your meeting attendees by the length of the meeting. (If you’re a Productivity Fox user, both of these measurements are built into the meeting interface.)
A – Achievable: Be realistic about what your team can accomplish during the course of the meeting, and set your agenda and timeline accordingly.
R – Relevant: Invite the right people to the meeting to improve your meeting relevance and participation.
T – Timely: Establish a timeline for the meeting. Start and end on time. For any follow-up action items, set due dates.
